$100 Tax Credit for Responders!

Important additional information - September, 2008 - attached here is the final guidelines for your FD.

Calling this an important first step, legislators have passed a law that provides active Responders a tax credit on their annual Pennsylvania Tax bill.  Act 66 became effective July 9th, and currently affects only the 2008 tax year.   The tax credit portion is presented here as a .pdf file for your enjoyment.

There may be some concern for Fire Police - indeed, for firefighters too.  The credit is for 2008 - we're already more than halfway through the year, so records will have to be recreated.  For Fire Police specifically, two main concerns arise:  First, Fire Police are not specifically listed; rather, it's assumed we are included as firefighters.  Second, it's up to the local FDs to determine who is active and who is not.  Some guidelines will be provided by the State Fire Commissioner's Office, so hopefully this will be alleviated; however, with the horror stories of Fire Police being denied funding by their FDs for the existing grant program, there is the potential for denial.

We'll all have to stay strong and stay united to ensure no one gets left behind on this important law!
